cofla designs
a UX and web design services company that needed a great first impression for new and returning clients
INTRODUCTION
PROJECT OVERVIEW
cofla designs is my UX and web design services company, focused on helping small business thrive online. With cofla designs being a newer company, I needed a website that served as a great first impression to new and returning clients, as well as something that served as a one-stop-shop for purchasing services.
PROBLEM
With cofla designs being a newer entity to the space, on top of web design being rather saturated, the website needed to set itself apart from the competition in the strongest ways possible.
OBJECTIVE
Design a website that provides a comprehensive offering of information and the selling of professional services.
DELIVERABLES
Competitor analysis
Content strategy
Information architecture
THE DISCOVERY
COMPETITOR ANALYSIS
When researching competitors, the primary things I noticed were that competitors sell everything related to web design and make you contact them for more information. This can naturally make a website feel overwhelming, because users are trying to drill down their needs and wants, on top of shopping around for prices. That said, the primary takeaways from the competitor analysis were as followed:
Make the website feel niche and better-targeted
List prices upfront
Set yourself apart from just “web” design
Make product offerings clear and direct
Present the website intuitively and efficiently
CONTENT STRATEGY
The takeaways from the competitor analysis naturally sparked thoughts around content. How can I best stand out? This is when I started focusing more on “UX” design, as well as “web” design. Even though UX is a popular space, it’s rarely offered as a front-facing service from a web design services company. Mixed with the prices upfront and clear intuitiveness, that alone could make the website feel more niche and set it apart from the competition.
THE FRAMEWORK
INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE
Keeping the competitor analysis and content strategy in mind, I decided to take a mixed approach of using landing pages with an e-commerce store. This way, the product pages became comprehensive and focused on conversions. Once a product is ready for checkout, the user can do just that. The website really is a one-stop-shop of learning about and purchasing professional services.
CONCLUSION
PROJECT WINDUP
The cofla designs website was one of my favorite projects to work on, as I know it will make an impact in the space. I always try to innovate where applicable and truly feel like I accomplished that with this project.
FUTURE IDEAS
In terms of content strategy, it might be more worth wild to target even more niche audiences, such as small businesses.
WHAT I'VE LEARNED
It can be difficult, but rewarding, to stand out and innovate against competitors.
Innovation doesn’t need to be monumental, but just taking the edge.
