THE DISCOVERY

BRAINSTORMING

Before I touched this project, it already had a fair amount of research done. Therefore, I instantly took a step back and put myself in the shoes of the users. Coming to surprise, there were already some problems that were not answered yet — problems that stemmed from major components of the future product. To start, I wrote down these problems and some potential solutions, then crafted my problem statement.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Our users need an app that offers event diversity, guaranteed security, and a clear picture as to what the app is capable of (buying tickets, creating groups, etc…). Come user interviews, we will focus on event diversity, account security, and wanted features.

COMPETITOR ANALYSIS

The platforms I chose to analyze were Ticketmaster, Eventbrite, and Meetup. I chose these competitors based on monthly, website traffic and total, mobile downloads on the Google Play Store. Facebook Events was also added to the list of competitors, upon user research insights.

As a result of the competitor analyses, it seemed like the most predominant issue was presenting information in a clean and organized, yet intriguing manner. Concert Buddies’ UX and UI have to be on point, the platform has to look and feel modern, there has to be focus on all event markets, and there has to be a way for users to make custom events.

USER INTERVIEWS

The client requested qualitative interviews. I supported this, because event planning is a personable experience and, in general, I feel that qualitative interviews offer deeper and more useful responses. Keeping the problem statement and research goals in mind, I wrote a user interview script that focused on all, major aspects of Concert Buddies — attending events, creating events, and promoting events.

USER RESEARCH ANALYSIS

After the user interviews, I organized all of the responses into a user research analysis, specifically into these sections: behaviors, frustrations, and needs. Overall, the final insights tailored to a platform that needs to be diverse, customizable, and social (amongst other specific insights).

USER PERSONAS

With my user research analysis in mind, I designed three user personas. Each persona has a vastly different life, because that’s the point of Concert Buddies — to make an event sharing experience suitable for everyone.

USER JOURNEYS

After defining the user personas, I wanted to turn each persona into a more technical outline, primarily to better visualize each persona’s needs and goals. Specifically, I focused on how to create different types of events.

CONCLUSION

PROJECT WINDUP

Concert Buddies was one of my favorite projects to work on. The platform has huge potential and I’m very happy to say that I could be part of such a project. Concert Buddies took about one week to research.

FUTURE IDEAS

  • Change the platform’s name, as “Concert Buddies” seems more tailored to concerts.

WHAT I'VE LEARNED

  • Some platforms play a large role in people’s lives, such as Facebook (not counting the social media aspect).

  • A platform’s name can make or break the platform
